Fatal W/F Manchester NH. 83 Bowman Street 02/11/2014

On Tuesday evening around 17:00hrs. Manchester NH. Fire Dept. started to receive 911 calls for a building fire in the area of 83 Bowman Street (West Side). First due Engine-2 reported heavy fire showing from floor 2 on arrival. Upon arrival of the District Chief, he reported heavy fire floor 2 in a 2 story wood-frame occupied structure. Rescue-1 reported primary and secondary search on floor 1 was complete and Engine-2 reported no fire on floor 1. Firefighters reported Colliers Mansion conditions (hoarding) inside the structure. The District Chief requested an extra engine over the W/F for manpower. As this was happening, companies reported a flash over on floor 2 and the District Chief ordered all companies to evacuate the structure. Firefighters went to work using (3) lines and a Tower/Ladder from the exterior, to knock down the heavy fire conditions.
After the heavy fire was knocked down, companies re-entered the structure to due a search and hit hot spots/overhaul. It was at this time, the victim was located on the 2nd floor of the structure.
The State Fire Marshall was requested and the fire remains under investigation by Manchester Fire & Police.
The out side temperature was 17 degrees at the time of the fire.
