Fatal 3rd Alarm Manchester NH. 169 Joliette Street 01/24/2014
On Friday Morning at 00:21hrs. the Manchester NH Fire Dept. responded to 169 Joliette Street (West Side) for a reported building fire. First due Engine-6 reported heavy fire showing from a large 3 story wood-frame occupied structure. Firefighter found heavy fire conditions on the 3rd floor and also had water problems with hydrants due to being the temperature of 1 degree out side. The firefighters were evacuated very quickly due to the 3rd floor being fully involved. The fire went to 3 alarms with mutual aid to cover the city stations. Rescue-1 reported Primary and secondary searches of apartments on floors 1 & 2 were complete but were unable to make the 3rd floor due to heavy fire conditions. After several ladder pipes knocked down the heavy fire, the firefighters re-entered the 3rd floor to conduct a primary search and found 1 victim deceased.
It took firefighters several hours to bring the blaze under control.
