2nd Alarm Lowell Ma. Box 225 49 Wamesit Street 05/07/2014
On Wednesday Morning around 01:45hrs. Lowell Ma Fire Dept struck Box 225 for 49 Wamesit Street for a reported house fire that was reported by Lowell Police Dept with possible people trapped.
Upon arrival, heavy fire from the rear of an occupied 2 story wood-frame structure, a 2nd Alarm was struck. Lowell Police Dept was making rescues of the occupants of the fire building and on both exposures. Lowell Engine 11 and Ladder-1 were only a block or so away at Box 225 604 Central Street (fire between 2 large buildings) when Box 225 was struck again. First due, they quickly stretched (2) hand lines while Ladder-1 ventilated. The fire hydrant across the street from the building broke when firefighters tried hooking up the 4 inch hose to it. Lowell Engine-3 had to lay out to the next hydrant. Firefighters quickly knocked down the heavy fire in the rear and checked for extension which there was.
it was last reported that 11 people were homeless and American Red Cross was assisting.
One civilian was transported with a minor injury to the hospital.
