Brockton Fire struck Box 3424 for 629 Pleasant Street. Ladder-1 reported smoke showing on arrival followed shortly by Car-56, Deputy Nardelli reporting heavy smoke and fire in a large vacant 2 story wood frame structure and requested a 2nd Alarm. This fire just happened to be Whitman Fire Lt Bob Hover's last career fire call, (34 years of service) as the Lt was retiring and his retirement ceremony was happening at the Whitman Fire House from 1300-1600hrs. Whitman Fire Chief Grenno responded was able to get Lt Hover back to Whitman so he wouldn't miss his ceremony. Ending your career with a 4 alarm fire is surely something not many firefighters get to do and I am very happy I was there to document it for Lt Hover.
