3rd Alarm Plus West Bridgewater Ma. 35 East Center St 09/23/20
On Wednesday Evening just before 17:30hrs. West Bridgewater Ma. Fire Dept responded to 35 East Center Street (Route 106) for a reported house fire. Companies reported smoke showing and quickly transmitted the W/F followed by the 2nd Alarm. During this fire, Brockton, the city next door, also was working a large outside fire so some of the normal Mutual Aid companies were tied up in Brockton. At 17:32hrs. Whitman Fire was dispatched to go cover the station in West Bridgewater, which is an unusual event. They ended up at the fire just shortly after arriving at the West Bridgewater station.
The fire was in a very large 2.5 story wood frame (old farm house style) structure which had a large 2.5 story wood frame addition off the rear of it. Companies had heavy fire in the rear addition with extension to the main house. West Bridgewater Fire Chief pulled all firefighters from the building (just as I arrived) and went to an exterior attack after the fire spread thru the main house. Firefighters operated (1) ladder pipe and 4 to 5 hand lines from the exterior which took a few hours to bring under control. The house was occupied and all occupants get out safely but reported they lost a few animals. Two firefighters were transported from the scene with reported minor injuries. Mutual aid from East Bridgewater, Bridgewater, Easton, Halifax, Raynham, Whitman worked at the scene worked the scene while Hanson Fire provided station coverage. Several pieces of apparatus was special called to the scene making this almost a 4th alarm equivalent fire.
