On Sunday Night around 20:50hrs. the Fall River Fire Dept responded to the area of 1545 Rodman Street on a still alarm for a reported building fire. Just a few minutes after apparatus was dispatched, a Rescue unit (ambulance) reported they were passing that location and it is a working fire. First due Engine-4 and reported a W/F. After the arrival of the Deputy Chief, he reported floor 1 was fully invovled of a large 3 story wood frame structure (3 decker). Soon after the D/C's report, he struck the 2nd Alarm.
Firefighters were heavily engaged in an interior attack with multiple lines operating in heavy smoke conditions, some interior companies reported fire in the walls.
Fire extended to floor 2 on the "B" side and quickly, heavy fire vented from several windows on floor 2 and soon after floor 3. The OIC requested all companies evacuate the building and firefighters went to an exterior attack and soon after the 3rd Alarm was struck. Multiple 2.5 lines (6) and (2) ladder pipes went into operation.
During the fire, outside temperature was 5 degrees with a wind chill of -9 degrees. Wind gusts were, 11-23mph. Which made any water spray turn to ice, covering everything and at certain times when the wind blew, the smoke banked down to the ground on the fire scene.
