Vendome Hotel Memorial Boston Ma. 04/14/09
The Vendome Hotel Memorial is on Commonwealth Ave at Dartmouth Street in Boston Ma. On June 17, 1972 at 2:35 pm Boston Box 1571 (Newbury St at Dartmouth St) was received for a fire in the former Vendome Hotel. The fire went to 4 alarms using 16 fire engines, 5 ladders, 2 aerial towers and 1 rescue company and took about 3 hours to extinguish. Then, at 5:28pm, with out any warning the southeast section of the building collapsed killing 9 firefighters and injuring 8 others.
Thomas J. Carroll, John E. Hanbury Jr, Thomas W. Beckwith, Joseph E. Boucher Jr, Charles E. Dolan, John E. Jameson, Richard Magee, Paul J. Murphy, Paul P. Saniuk are the brave 9 who gave the ultimate sacrifice that day leaving eight women widowed and 25 children with out their fathers.
On the twenty-fifth anniversary, June 17, 1997 the Hotel Vendome Memorial was dedicated to remember these brave 9 men who gave theirs lives.
