Fall Victim-314 Totten Pond Rd "Prospect Park" Waltham MA. 09/03/09
On Thursday afternoon around 12:30pm, Waltham Ma. Fire/EMS and Police responded to 314 Totten Pond Road "Prospect Park" (former Ski area) for a handicapped male who fell. As responders were en route, they were updated that it was a motorized wheelchair with a male seat belted in that fell about 6 to 8 feet down an embankment into a stream area. Upon arrival of Waltham Police, officers reported a laceration to the head and requested WFD and WEMS to expodite. Waltham Engine 4, Rescue-6, AMR Medic-2 responded. It appears that the wheelchair malfunctioned which caused the wheelchair to go out of control. It took firefighters and paramedics several minutes to stabilize the patient and remove him from the wheelchair and then he was packaged and removed from the bottom of the embankment. AMR/WEMS Medic 2 transported to the Beth Isreal Hospital in oston with reported minor injuries. Waltham Police and Mass State Police are investigating the incident.
