4th Alarm Stoughton Ma. 762 Washington St. 10/22/09 : On Thursday October 22, 2009 around 15:20hrs, Stoughton Fire struck 4 Alarms for Box 5 762 Washington Street "Cheng-Du Restaurant". Fire was in a very large 1 story taxpayer style structure. Companies had fire in the ductwork with extension to the ceilings and walls through out several stores. Extensive mutual aid responded to the scene and for station coverage (which parked at Shaw's Market on Rt 138 since the fire station had no access). It took fireifghters several hours to bring the fire under control and extensive overhaul and opening up was done. Dept. of Fire Services responded with the Rehab Truck and ISU-1 along with Norfolk County Control FAO-1 & Special Signal Fire Assn/Providence Canteen-1.

4th Alarm Stoughton Ma. 762 Washington St. 10/22/09

Construction Accident Waltham Ma. 850 Winter Street. 10/21/09 : On Wednesday Morning October 21, 2009, Waltham Emergency Services responded to 850 Winter Street for a reported construction accident. Upon arrival of companies, they reported a male pt with a severe compound fracture/partial amputation from the shin down on his right leg and at the request of the paramedics, Medflight was requested. The L/Z was a parking lot near the scene. Medflight transported the patient to Mass General Hospital in Boston. It is reported that a roof top A/C unit fell from a crane striking the patients leg causing the injury. Waltham PD and OSHA were requested and are investigating the incident.

4+ Alarms Candia NH. 6 Deerfield Rd-Double Fatal Fire 10/18/09 : On Sunday Night October 18, 2009 around 22:15hrs. Candia NH. Fire Dept. responded to 6 Deerfield Road for a house fire with possible people trapped. Upon arrival companies reported heavy fire conditions and the alarms quickly rang in. The fire went to 4+ Alarms with a special call for (2) extra engines and a tower/ladder from Manchester. The fire was in a large 2.5 story wood-frame structure 30x60. Crews had heavy fire on the upper floors and attic area. Due to the rain and snow during this fire, the fireground was banked with a coating of smoke. Firefighters from 12 towns responded to assist. The firefighters tried to make an aggressive search but had to withdraw due to the heat and fire conditions on the 2nd floor. It took firefighters several hours to bring the fire under control and firefighters were able to remove the remains of 2 occupants who perished. The fire remains under investigation by NH State Fire Marshall.

Manchester NH Fire Dept. Fire Prevention Parade 10/04/09 : On Sunday October 4, 2009 the Manchester NH Fire Dept. held thier Fire Prevention Parade in the downtown area and then held a fire muster at HQ's on Merrimack Street. This is done for the starting of Fire Prevention Week in Manchester.

Newton Police Officer Joseph Kelly Wake/Funeral 09/24/09-09/25/09 : Sadly on September 21, 2009, Joseph P. Kelly, a seven year veteran Officer of the Lextington and Newton Police Department's passed away at his home following a lengthy illness. Joe was 38 years old. Officer Kelly leaves behind a wife and two young children. His wake was held on Thursday at Keefe Funeral Home (5 Chestnut St-Arlington) and his Funeral Mass was held at Saint Agnes Church, (30 Medford St-Arlington) on Friday with Burial at Mount Pleasant Cemetery at 70 Medford Street, Arlington. God Speed Joe!

9/11/09 Memorial Bike Ride Newton Ma. : On Friday September 11, 2009, being 8 years since that tradic day, I was informed of a memorial bike ride that was going to pass threw the City of Newton Ma. The bike ride started in Boston Ma. with about 175 to 200 bikers who pettled to New York City. I think a job well done! Photos were taken on Commonwealth Ave at Manet Rd in Newton.

Suspicious Package Newton Ma. Rear 149 Pleasant Street. 09/09/09 : On Wednesday September 9, 2009, Newton Ma. Fire and Police responded to the playground to the rear of the Mason Rice School at 149 Pleasant St (Newton Centre) around 10am for a suspicious package that was chained to a park bench. After a few minutes of investigating, the Deputy Chief requested the MSP Bomb Squad to eval the package and while waiting, the firefighters and police officers evac'd and closed off the area. Once the MSP Bomb Squad was on scene, they suited up and went to x-ray the package. It was a small black and silver box with a combo lock chained to a lone park bench on the hill. After the MSP X-rayed the package, they were unable to tell what was inside so they decided to hit it with a water cannon. After being hit with the water cannon, the box was broken open to find some small non important items and was being taken care of by the Newton Police Dept.

3rd Alarm Danvers Ma. Town Hall 1 Sylvan Street 09/08/09 : On Tuesday afternoon September 8, 2009 Danvers Ma. Fire Dept. struck 3 Alarms for an attic fire at the Town Hall at 1 Sylvan Street. Fire was reported around 13:30hrs. Companies found heavy fire in the attic/roof area of 1 side of a 2.5 story wood frame 30x70 that was under construction. (built turn of century) 2 Engines and 1 Ladder truck were special called on the W/F and shortly after the 2nd and 3rd alarms were struck. Firefighters preformed an interior attack and also worked from 3 ladder trucks. It took firefighters about an hour and a half to bring the fire under control. Mutual aid from several towns responded.

3rd Alarm Danvers Ma. Town Hall 1 Sylvan Street 09/08/09

Fall Victim-314 Totten Pond Rd "Prospect Park" Waltham MA. 09/03/09 : On Thursday afternoon around 12:30pm, Waltham Ma. Fire/EMS and Police responded to 314 Totten Pond Road "Prospect Park" (former Ski area) for a handicapped male who fell. As responders were en route, they were updated that it was a motorized wheelchair with a male seat belted in that fell about 6 to 8 feet down an embankment into a stream area. Upon arrival of Waltham Police, officers reported a laceration to the head and requested WFD and WEMS to expodite. Waltham Engine 4, Rescue-6, AMR Medic-2 responded. It appears that the wheelchair malfunctioned which caused the wheelchair to go out of control. It took firefighters and paramedics several minutes to stabilize the patient and remove him from the wheelchair and then he was packaged and removed from the bottom of the embankment. AMR/WEMS Medic 2 transported to the Beth Isreal Hospital in oston with reported minor injuries. Waltham Police and Mass State Police are investigating the incident. Weymouth Ma. Police Officer Michael Davey LODD Funeral 08/29/09 : On a very wet Saturday morning August 29, 2009, Weymouth Police Dept. laid to rest Officer Michael Davey, age 34. Officer Davey was struck and killed on Monday August 24, 2009 while working a traffic detail at Front St/West St. Officer Davey was a 5 year veteran of the Police Dept and also was an Iraq War Veteran. Michael's father was also a Weymouth Police Officer who just recently retired. His funeral was held at St. Francis Xavier Church on Pleasant St and his burial was at Fairmount Cemetary on Cedar St. Officer Davey leaves behind a wife and 3 children. Hundreds of Police Officers from all over New England stood in the pouring rains for hours to pay tribute to the fallen officer. With all the rain, it indeed made it a real "Sea of Blue". As the procession left the Church and moved down Pleasant Street, It was lined with hundreds of citizens holding American Flags. Godspeed Officer Davey. A fund in memory of Officer Davey has been set up to benefit his three children at South Shore Savings Bank, 88 Pleasant St., South Weymouth, MA 02190.

Boston Fire Dept. Lt. Kevin Kelley Dedication 08/23/09 : On Sunday August 23, 2009, The Boston Fire Dept. and the Kelley Family held a plaque and truck dedication for the late Lt. Kevin Kelley of Ladder-26 who was killed in the LODD on January 9, 2009. The ceremony was held at Station 37 aka The Huntington Ave Express, home to Engine-37, Ladder-26 and former District 5. The station is located at 560 Huntington Ave. The event had numerous speakers. A new plaque was placed on the station and the new 2009 E-One 110Ft. RMA was dedicated in memory of Kevin with his name and 242 on it. It is believed the new truck went into service that night at 18:00hrs.

A/C/W Boston Ma. (Roxbury) Box 2148 2 Circuit Square 08/18/09 : On Tuesday Night around 21:20hrs. Boston Fire transmitted 2 boxes for reported building fires, 1 in District 9 and the other in District 7. Was in Roxbury passing the Fort Dudley Station when the boxes hit so Box 2148 2 Circuit Square was the one we took in. BFD Ladder-4 was 1st due and reported smoke showing. Lad-4 found a small fire on the 1st floor of an occupied 3 story woodframe duplex 50X75. Eng 37 and Lad 26 were 2nd due and brought in a big line and extinguished the fire while truck companies ventilated and checked for extension. Other engine companies (Eng-3 & Eng-22) stretched dry big lines for back up but were not needed due to the quick knocked down. Ladder trucks access was difficult due to wires/poles and a fence infront of the structure.

W/F Needham Ma. Box 4621 38 Fuller Road 08/16/09 : On Sunday morning at 08:28am, Needham Ma. Fire struck Box 4621 for a poss fire at 38 Fuller Road. It was reported to be a ceiling fan fire in the bathroom. Needham PD and C-2 reported smoke showing on arrival. Companies found fire in the attic area of an occupied 1 story wood-frame structure 20x40. Crews stretched (2) lines and quickly extinguished the attic fire. Mutual Aid from Dedham, Newton, Wellesley and Westwood covered Needham's 2 fire stations and the fire under control around 10:30hrs.

MVA With Fire Newton Ma. 971 Chestnut Street 08/15/09 : On Saturday afternoon, Newton Fire and EMS responded to the area of 971 Chestnut Street (Route 9 overpass) for a reported mva involving a car fire. Upon arrival of Engine-7 and Tower/Ladder-2, they reported a car into a pole with the pole and fence along with the car on fire and requested the box be struck. Companies stretched 2 handlines and quickly extinguished the fire. N-EMS transported 1 victim with minor injuries to Newton Wellesley Hospital.

Child vs Car-Waltham Ma. Rear 76-82 Forest St. 07/16/09 : On Thursday July 16, 2009 around 4:20pm, Waltham Fire/EMS/Police responded to 76-82 Forest Street for a child that was run over by a car. Upon arrival of the 1st police unit-the officer reported a 20 month old female that was run over by a car in the driveway and requested a push on EMS for serious injuries. Soon after the arrival of Waltham's Emergency Services, Medic-1 requested for Medflight. The child was transported by W-EMS to a soccer field at 200 Trapelo Road (not to far from the scene). The child was transported by Medflight to a Boston Hospital with reported serious injuries. Waltham Police are investigating the accident.

Charles River Oil Spill-Newton/Watertown Ma. 07/03/09 : On Friday July 3, 2009 in the morning, Newton Fire responded to the Charles River area off Nonamtum Road for a reported oil slick in the water. Upon arrival, crews found an oil slick draining from a water run off drain that dumps into the river. Newton Fire contacted DEP and they stated they were handling this incident and informed the FD to place a few booms out. Newton Fire launched their boat and and Watertown Fire responded also to assist with an engine and ladder with the Deputy Chief. Both dept's launched boats and placed 3 booms in the water to try to help contain the oil. The incident was turned over to DEP to handle.

Mva Rollover Newton Ma. Route 90 East Bound 07/02/09 : On Wednesday July 2, 2009 the Newton Fire Dept responded to Mass Pike east Bound at Exit 16 located in West Newton for a reported rollover with injuries. Upon arrival of Engine-2, the Lt. reported a 1 car suv rollover with 3 injuries and requested a 2nd ambulance. Crews extricated 3 patients and Newton EMS transported all victims to Beth Isreal Hospital in Boston. This accident happened during a heavy rain storm that hit the area around lunch time.

2nd Alarm Stoughton Ma. 63 Ethyl Way 06/27/09 : On Saturday afternoon around 4:30pm a severe thunderstorm hit the Norfolk County area pretty hard with numerous lighting strikes in Foxboro and Walpole. When I heard about the storm, I grabbed my rain gear and starting driving south on Route 128 into the storm. When I got down to Route 138 I got off due to the conditions and seconds after pulling over, I heard Stoughton Fire say smoke showing and for the rest, well, just take a look. Fire was at 63 Ethyl Way. The fire was in a large 2.5 story brick & wood condo structures (4 units to building). A 2nd Alarm was struck by C-5 a few minutes before I arrived. Upon my arrival with heavy smoke followed by fire, companies were heavily into operation with opening up and using foam. It took firefighters about 1 hour to bring the fire under control. Firefighters were able to keep extension from the rest of the attic and also saved a 13 year old male cat. Nice job JT and the rest of Canton Engine-6 crew! The fire is believed to have started from a lighting strike to the attic area. Mutual Aid from Avon, Brockton, Canton and Sharon assisted at the scene. There was no reported injuires.

2nd Alarm Stoughton Ma. 63 Ethyl Way 06/27/09

W/F+ Springfield Ma. 671 Bay Street-Double Fatal 06/27/09 : On Saturday Morning June 27, 2009 around 08:20am Springfield Fire Dept started to receive calls reporting a house fire at 671 Bay Street. As FAO was dispatching companies a Springfield Police Officer spotted the fire and confrimed 2 kids were trapped. At the request of the on duty chief, an extra engine was dispatched, (Engine-1). 1st due company reported heavy smoke showing from a 1.5 story wood frame occupied cape style structure. Family members confrimed with firefighters that 2 of their children were trapped. After numerous valiant rescue attempts by firefighters, they were unable to reach them in time. A 4 year old boy and a 17 year old boy were killed. It was reported 10 to 11 poeple lived in the house. 4 family members were transported to the hospital for minor burns and smoke inhalation. The fire appeared to be in the basement with extension to the 1st and half stories. Companies ran (3) lines and knocked down the fire with in 30 minutes. This was Springfield's 1st fatal fire in over 1 year and a half.

Newton Ma. Firefighter Kevin Kelly Wake 06/03/09 & Funeral 06/04/09 : Newton Ma. Firefighter Kevin Kelly, Age 53 and a 24 year member of the Dept. (Tower/Ladder-2, Group 3) passed away unexpectedly on Saturday May 30, 2009. His wake was held on Wednesday June 3, 2009 at Eaton & Mackay Funeral Home on Centre Street and his funeral was held on Thursday June 4, 2009 at Mary Immaculate of Lourdes Church on Elliot St in Upper Falls and a service was held at Newton Cemetary. Kevin was a great man and will be missed by everyone! Rest in peace Kevin!

2nd Alarm On Arrival Chelmsford Ma. 12 Dominic Dr. 06/01/09 : On Monday June 1, 2009 around 12:15pm Chelmsford Ma. Fire Dept struck a 2nd Alarm on arrival for a house fire at 12 Dominic Drive. 1st due company reported fire showing thru the roof. The fire was in a raised ranch style structure 20x60. Companies went to an exterior operation on arrival with several lines. Mutual aid from Billerica, Lowell and Westford Fire Dept's responded to the scene to assist. The fire was under control with in a few hours.

4th Alarm+ Middleboro Ma. South Main Street "Central Congregational Church" 05/25/09 : On Monday morning (Memorial Day) around 7am, May 25, 2009 Middleboro Ma. Fire Dept struck 4+ alarms for the Central Congregational Church on South Main Street at Webster Street. Heavy fire in a large 100x50 wood-frame church that was built in 1848. At the height of the fire, there was 4 tower/ladders, 2 ladder pipes and several deck guns in operation. Just happened to be working when this job hit so I decided to take it in, especially since my relief was early. As i arrived, there was light smoke showing but interior companies were reporting heavy fire conditions inside and a few minutes later it broke threw the roof near the steeple. It took firefighters several hours using master streams to bring it under control. Several special requests were made during the fire and extensive mutual aid was used. Middleboro also had to cancel the Memorial Day Parade because the fire was on the route and across from the towns Memorial area.

Retired Waltham Ma. Fire Chief Edward Cloonan Jr. Funeral 05/23/09 : On Saturday May 23, 2009, the life of retired Waltham Fire Chief Edward Cloonan Jr. was celebrated at Saint Mary's Church on School Street. He passed away on May 19, 2009 at the age of 90. In July 1941, Ed joined the Waltham Fire Department as a "Call Firefighter" and after being in World War II, Ed rejoined the Fire Dept. as a Firefighter. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 1948, to Caption in 1951 and was promoted to Deputy Chief in 1954. In December 1964, he was appointed Chief of the Department, a position he held until his retirement twenty years later on March 31, 1984. Ed was one of the founding members of the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy and had been a member and past president of the Massachusetts Fire Chiefs Association. On Ed's final ride to Calvary Cemetery, Moody Street companies along with Engine-3/Engine-8 lined up to salute him.

Retired Waltham Ma. Fire Chief Edward Cloonan Jr. Funeral 05/23/09

3rd Alarm Yonkers NY. 46 Caroline Ave 05-21-09 : On Wednesday evening around 19:30pm Yonkers NY Fire Dept. struck 3+ Alarms for a building fire at 46 Caroline Ave. This job came in while buffing FDNY and took us over an hour to get their due to heavy traffic in the city. Fire was knocked down upon arrival-fire was in a large 4 story wood-frame omd. Fire was on the top 2 floors and attic area. Local media from the Yonkers area was reporting that a firefighter sustained a serious leg injury at this fire after being struck by a responding company. The Firefighter was transported to a local Bronx hospital. The accident happened on Broadway at Herriot Street (just blocks from the fire) and the police investigation was still on going when we got there.

Dumpster Fire Waltham Ma. Box 14 On Cherry Street 05/20/09 : On Wednesday Night around 23:30hrs. May 20, 2009, Waltham Fire struck Box 14 for a possible building fire behind 85 Maple St. Upon arrival, the fire was found in the rear on Cherry Street and the fire was only a dumpster. Companies stretched 1 line and checked for extension into a 1 story brick/wood garage. The fire was quickly knocked down and overhauled.

W/F Needham Ma. Box 143 on Clyde Street 05/19/09 : On Tuesday Night May 19, 2009 around 20:30hrs. Needham Fire struck Box 143 for a garage fire on Clyde Street. Upon arrival of C-2, he reported fire showing from a 1 story wood 1 car garage. The W/F was struck and that brought Dedham, Westwood, Wellesley and Newton Fire Dept's for station coverage. Fire was knocked down upon my arrival.

4th Alarm Cambridge Ma. Box 5441 2-4 Longfellow Park 05/17/09 : On Sunday Morning May 17, 2009 Cambridge Ma. 4th Alarm Box 5441 2-4 Longfellow Park "Church Of The Latter Day Saints". Fire was in a large 2.5 story brick structure with a wood frame roof. Numerous tower/ladders and ladder pipes in operation and several portable deck guns working also. It is reported the fire started during Sunday Mass with parishioners inside and all escaped with no injuries. When the firefighters started to salvage the church, the parishioners lined up and passed all the stuff down the line into a building across the street. It was a sight to see, they even put on medical gloves on to handle the several hundred or thousands of books and belongings that they moved.

4th Alarm Cambridge Ma. Box 5441 2-4 Longfellow Park 05/17/09

Cambridge Ma. Taylor Square Fire Station 05/17/09 : On Sunday afternoon after the 3rd Alarm, I stopped by Taylor Square. Here is a quick view, home to Cambridge Fire Division-2, Ladder-4 and Engine-8. Newton Engine-1 was covering. The station is located at 113 Garden Street and was built in 1904 and remodeled/restored in 2004.

3rd Alarm Newton Ma. Box 363 101 Exeter Street 05/06/09 : On Wednesday Morning May 6, 2009 around 1:45am Newton Fire Struck Box 363 for 101 Exeter Street. Fire was in a large 2.5 story brick vacant structure with an attached 2 car garage with a 1 story addition in the rear topped with a slate roof. I was working FAO when this job hit but did stop by on the way home to shot overhaul and some candid shots. When I looked out the windows at FAO during the fire and saw the pouring rain, kinda made me glad I was inside. It is reported that 2 firefighters were injuried fighting the fire and received some minor injuries.

3rd Alarm Newton Ma. Box 363 101 Exeter Street 05/06/09

W/F Waltham Ma. Box 3312 18 Grant Place 05/03/09 : On Sunday afternoon May 3, 2009 around 4:30pm Waltham Ma. Fire struck box 3312 for 18 Grant Place for a reported porch fire. C-2 reported smoke showing on arrival and struck the W/F a few minutes latter after doing a size up. Fire was on the rear porches of an occupied 2.5 story wood-frame structure 20x40 with an exposure to a 1 story garage (siding was melted). Upon my arrival, I had very light smoke showing from the half story and the fire was knocked down and companies were opening up. Companies reported minor extension into the structure. (Grant Place is a very small and tight street loaded with these style structures-off of Grant Street).

3rd Alarm Boston Ma. Box 4152 Salem St at High St 05/02/09 : On Saturday night May 2, 2009 around 9:00pm Boston Fire was receiving calls for a building fire at Salem Street at High Street in Charlestown Section. BFD Struck Box 4152 and soon after Ladder-9 reported fire showing and a 2nd alarm was struck. So I decided to take it in. While en route, the 3rd alarm was struck. Just as I parked, the OIC reported the fire was knocked down and under control. Fire was in a 3.5 story 20x20 wood-frame attached to a 4 story 20x20 wood-frame with large outside porches in the rear. Fire appeared to have started on the porches and extended into both structures. Companies ran (6) hand lines and Somerville Engine-2 also responded. This is a very tight neighborhood so access for apparatus was difficult.

3rd Alarm Boston Ma. Box 4152 Salem St at High St 05/02/09

A/C/W Wellesley Ma. Route 128 North 05/01/09 : On Friday Morning May 1, 2009 while on the way home from working the overnight, Wellesley Fire Dept. responded to Route 128 North Bound between Route 9 and Route 16 (on the Newton Line) for a reported trash truck on fire around 7:45am. Upon arrival of Car-3, he reported a fire in the container portion of a trash truck and requested an extra engine from Newton to the scene to assist. Companies stretched several hand lines and went to work while the MSP shut down 2 lanes during the morning rush hour traffic. A few minutes into it, the OIC requested for (2) more extra engines to the scene with Newton Engine-1 (Special request for foam) and Wellesley Engine-4 was sent to Route 9 at Williams Street to assist companies with shuttling water to the scene. After the load was dumped on the high way, the fire was extinguished with 3 hand lines using foam and a pay loader from State Highway showed up and assisted with the overhauling. The first 2 photos were taken from a parking lot on Route 9 and the rest was taken from the end of Duxbury Rd by climbing a fence and tree.

3rd Alarm Newton Ma. Box 234 391-393 Newtonville Ave 04/28/09 : On Tuesday evening April 28, 2009 around 5:45pm Newton Fire struck box 234 for 391-393 Newtonville Ave just outside Newtonville Square. Ladder-3 reported smoke showing from the basement upon arrival. I arrived as the W/F was being transmitted by C-2, bringing Ladder-1 to the fire. Heavy smoke was showing from the rear basement and 1st floor area in a large 2.5 story wood-frame 40x80 irregular shaped occupied multiple dwelling. C-2 ordered a 2nd Alarm when companies found the house filled with debris floor to ceiling and wall to wall. Companies stretched (6) 1 3/4 lines and did an interior aggresive attack with only some minor extension to the 1st floor. All occupants did make it out ok and several animals were rescued by firefighters including a large bird and small dog. C-3 ordered a 3rd Alarm for relief proposes due to the high heat and extensive overhaul. The fire was placed under control at 20:00hrs. Fire remains under investigation.

Cambridge Ma. Fire Station 2 Lafayette Square 4-09 : A closer look at Cambridge Ma. Fire Dept. Station 2 known as Lafayette Square at 378 Massachusetts Ave (Formerly Front Street). Cambridge Engine-2, Ladder-3 and Squad-2 occupy this station. The station was built in 1893 and opened on February 6, 1894 with Engine-2 and on April 2, 1894 Ladder-3 was organized and to this day both companies are located in the firehouse which is over 100 years old. On May 1, 2005 Squad-2 (with Squad-4) were organized as Paramedic Response Units. Engine-2 runs a 2002 Pierce Saber Pump, Ladder-3 runs a 1994/2009 refurbished Pierce Arrow Heavy-Duty Rear Mount Aerial. Squad-2 runs a 2005 Ford E-350. The engine is known as "Second to None" and the ladder as "The Black & Blue Crew". Check out the hand drawn mural on the wall-was done several years ago with great precise and detail. Engine-2 was running spare Engine-10 (former Eng-4) while these photos were taken.

Fox 25 100th Zip Trip/Firehouse Friday with Needham Fire 04-24-09 : On Friday Morning April 24, 2009 Fox 25 News held their 100th Zip Trip in Needham Ma. on the Town Common at Town Hall from 5am to 9am. Fridays is also Fire House Fridays on the show which featured Needham Fire Dept and the guys received coffee and donuts from Dunkin Donuts. The town also brought out several different town trucks for the kids too see. Differently a great day and way to start off the Zip Trip Season.

2009 Boston Marathon 04-20-09 : On Monday April 20, 2009 (Patriots Day in Massachusetts) the 113th running of the Boston Marathon was held. It starts in Hopkinton and travels to Boston. This marathon is said to be the oldest and best of all marathons. Photos were taken the mile marker 17 which just happens to fall in front of Newton Fire Station 2 at 1750 Commonwealth Ave (Route 30/Route 16). Congrats to Newton Firefighter Paul Stevens (Ladder-1) and Newton Police Officer Mark Hagopian for running in the 113th Boston Marathon. Paul's time was 4:59 and Mark's was 3:38. Great Job Guys!

Vendome Hotel Memorial Boston Ma. 04/14/09 : The Vendome Hotel Memorial is on Commonwealth Ave at Dartmouth Street in Boston Ma. On June 17, 1972 at 2:35 pm Boston Box 1571 (Newbury St at Dartmouth St) was received for a fire in the former Vendome Hotel. The fire went to 4 alarms using 16 fire engines, 5 ladders, 2 aerial towers and 1 rescue company and took about 3 hours to extinguish. Then, at 5:28pm, with out any warning the southeast section of the building collapsed killing 9 firefighters and injuring 8 others. Thomas J. Carroll, John E. Hanbury Jr, Thomas W. Beckwith, Joseph E. Boucher Jr, Charles E. Dolan, John E. Jameson, Richard Magee, Paul J. Murphy, Paul P. Saniuk are the brave 9 who gave the ultimate sacrifice that day leaving eight women widowed and 25 children with out their fathers. On the twenty-fifth anniversary, June 17, 1997 the Hotel Vendome Memorial was dedicated to remember these brave 9 men who gave theirs lives.

PFFM Lobby Day at Beacon Hill 04/14/09 : On Tuesday April 14, 2009 The PFFM held their Lobby Day at Beacon Hill in Boston. The formation meet at Beacon St at Charles St and just after 11:00am they marched up to the State House. The firefighters lined up on the front stairs and side walk infront of Bulfinch entrance and held a rally with PFFM President McCarthy who spoke. After the rally, the formation marched down Bowdoin St then a left onto Deme St then left onto Hancock St then right onto Mt Vernon St and left down Joy St putting the march back on Beacon St toward the State House. After the march, groups of firefighters entered the State House to speak to the Senators and Representatives.

A/C/W Newton Ma. 160 Walnut Street 04/13/09 : On Monday April 13, 2009 Newton Fire struck a box for a reported fire in the house at 160 Walnut Street around 8:30am. Being on the way home from working the night shift in FAO, I found myself only 3 blocks away on Watertown Street. Upon my arrival (Before 1st due company's) I found light smoke showing from the 3rd floor rear of a large 2.5 story wood-frame 25x60 with 2 additions in the rear. The tenants reported that they all were accounted for except for 1 small black dog was still inside and that the fire was in the kitchen on the 3rd floor. Engine-4, along with Engine-1 and Ladder-3 (using spare ladder 4) were 1st due. Companies stretched (2) 1 3/4 lines and put 1 into operation and quickly knocked down the kitchen fire. Firefighters did rescue the small black dog and he seemed to be ok but was transported by animal control to be checked out.

3rd Alarm Rockland Ma. Box 33 873 Union Street 04/11/09 : On Saturday April 11, 2009, around 3pm, Rockland Ma. Fire struck 3 alarms at Box 33 873 Union Street. Fire was in a very large irregular shaped 1.5 story wood-frame occupied multiple dwelling. After being a 2nd alarm on arrival and the 3rd alarm being struck I decided to take it in. It took me awhile coming from Waltham but I still saw great action. It was cold, windy, snowy and raining during this fire which made it a tough one. It is reported that several animals were rescued before my arrival and no reported injuries. Box 35 1477 Beacon Street 04/05/09 : On Sunday April 5, 2009 at 9:17am Brookline Fire Dept. struck Box 35 for 1477 Beacon Street for a central station alarm sounding. 1st due companies reported a fire on the 6th floor elevator room of a large class 3, 6 story brick OMD and the Deputy Chief quickly struck a 2nd alarm. Fire Dept. celebrated the life of Deputy Chief Robert Fairburn. Robert was tragically killed on Wednesday March 25, 2009 at a home accident. Deputy Fairburn was a 32 year veteran of the East Bridgewater Fire Dept. Local 2768 spending the last 13 years as Deputy Chief. East Bridgewater Chief Ryon Pratt called it "A tragic and sudden loss". 3rd Alarm Brookline Ma. Box 271 59 Naples Road 03/26/09 : On Thursday March 26, 2009 around 16:45hrs. Brookline Ma. Fire Dept struck box 271 for a possible basement fire at 59 Naples Road. 1st due companies reported smoke showing on arrival from the basement and C-2 reported fire showing shortly after he arrived. A 2nd alarm was struck and companies went to work. I arrived behind Boston Car-5 with moderate smoke showing from a large 2.5 story wood-frame 30x50. Interior companies reported the heavy fire in the basement was knocked down but the fire extended to the upper floors and was in the walls. The oic special called for an extra ladder truck (Cambridge Ladder-1) to the scene a couple of minutes before the Chief struck the 3rd alarm.

W/F Newton Ma. Box 913 79 Brookline Street 03/20/09 : On Friday March 20, 2009 W/F Newton Ma. Box 913 79 Brookline Street-Engine 10 was 1st due and reported smoke showing with a house fire. The W/F was transmitted by C-2 a few minutes after he arrived. Fire was in the kitchen area and extended to the attic area of a 1 story brick/wood structure 15x60 "L" shaped. Companies stretched (2) 1 3/4 lines. As the fire was knocked down, a neighbor's dog escaped and took off into the house to check it out-a firefighter from Ladder-2 had to make the rescue. The dog was returned to it's owner with out injury. Fire was quickly knocked down and there was no reported injuries. The fire happened around 14:45hrs.

5th Alarm Boston Ma. Box 3358 Blue Hill Ave At Columbia Road 02/21/09 : On Saturday Morning 02/21/09 around 01:30hrs. Boston Ma. 5th Alarm for Box 3358 on Blue Hill Ave at Columbia Road. Fire was in a 5 story brick church (100X100) with commercial on the 1st floor towards Blue Hill Ave side. Companies had heavy fire on the 4th and 5th floors in the rear section of the structure and quickly knocked the fire down. Boston Fire was very busy besides this fire. At the same time, an A/C/W was in on Commonwealth Ave in Brighton and a 2nd A/C/W on Peterborough Street in the Back Bay. While these photo's were being put up, another A/C/W was in at 6 Buswell Street in Brighton. I took this job in as a 3rd alarm and while en-route the 4th and 5th were transmitted and upon my arrival, there was light smoke showing.

Fire was in a 2.5 story wood-frame occupied structure 20x40. Companies had heavy fire showing on arrival. There were 4 injuries at this fire, 2 civilians and 2 firefighters. A firefighter from Engine-3 fell from the attic area to the 1st floor just before I arrived and was transported to Beth Isreal Hospital in Boston. MY best wishes to go to both members. NFD group 1 had the fire and Group 2 came in to overhaul and picked up. I was late taken this job in due to being at the fire alarm office. The all out was transmitted around 10:00am.

Took this job in leaving the hotel in Queens Saturday morning. It was a quick knock down but got to watch Rescue-4 respond from their quarters down Queens Blvd on the 10-75 signal. W/F Newton Ma. Box 67 301 Lake Ave 1-20-09 Grp-3 : On Tuesday Night January 20, 2009 Newton Box 67 was transmitted for 301 Lake Ave for a reported house fire with multiple calls coming in. Upon arrival of the 1st due company, they reported fire showing from floor 2. The fire was in a 2.5 story wood-frame occupied structure 40X60. Companies used (2) hand lines with the 2 ladder companies searched for occupants and ventilated. Searches come up negative. The cause of the fire is being investigated by Newton Fire.

Upon arrival companies found heavy smoke showing from a large 2.5 story wood-frame structure. Fire started in the basement and extended to all floors via the walls.
