Newton Police Officer Joseph Kelly Wake/Funeral 09/24/09-09/25/09 : Sadly on September 21, 2009, Joseph P. Kelly, a seven year veteran Officer of the Lextington and Newton Police Department's passed away at his home following a lengthy illness. Joe was 38 years old. Officer Kelly leaves behind a wife and two young children. 
His wake was held on Thursday at Keefe Funeral Home (5 Chestnut St-Arlington) and his Funeral Mass was held at Saint Agnes Church, (30 Medford St-Arlington) on Friday with Burial at Mount Pleasant Cemetery at 70 Medford Street, Arlington.

3rd Alarm Rockland Ma. Box 33 873 Union Street 04/11/09 : On Saturday April 11, 2009, around 3pm, Rockland Ma. Fire struck 3 alarms at Box 33 873 Union Street. Fire was in a very large irregular shaped 1.5 story wood-frame occupied multiple dwelling. After being a 2nd alarm on arrival and the 3rd alarm being struck I decided to take it in. It took me awhile coming from Waltham but I still saw great action. It was cold, windy, snowy and raining during this fire which made it a tough one. It is reported that several animals were rescued before my arrival and no reported injuries. Boston Red Sox vs Tampa Bay Rays at Fenway Park 04/08/09 : On a cold and windy Wednesday night April 8, 2009 I attended the Red Sox game, they played Tampa Bay Rays at Fenway Park.  Photos were taken from the 3rd base dug out side 3 rows from the field. awesome seats! The Red Sox last 7 to 2 but its only the 2nd game of the season with 159 games to go! I know it's not fire pics but it has been slow lately.

2nd Alarm Brookline Ma. Box 35 1477 Beacon Street 04/05/09 : On Sunday April 5, 2009 at 9:17am Brookline Fire Dept. struck Box 35 for 1477 Beacon Street for a central station alarm sounding. 1st due companies reported a fire on the 6th floor elevator room of a large class 3, 6 story brick OMD and the Deputy Chief quickly struck a 2nd alarm. Fire extended to the roof deck top. Brookline Tower-1 opened up and 2nd alarm companies did primary and secondary searches. Fire was knocked down upon my arrival.

Active Duty Death Funeral Deputy Chief Robert Fairburn East Bridgewater Ma. 03/30/09 : On a cold and wet Monday March 30, 2009 The East Bridgewater Ma. Fire Dept. celebrated the life of Deputy Chief Robert Fairburn. Robert was tragically killed on Wednesday March 25, 2009 at a home accident. Deputy Fairburn was a 32 year veteran of the East Bridgewater Fire Dept. Local 2768 spending the last 13 years as Deputy Chief.  East Bridgewater Chief Ryon Pratt called it "A tragic and sudden loss". His service was held at Saint John's Church on Central Street in East Bridgewater.

3rd Alarm Brookline Ma. Box 271 59 Naples Road 03/26/09 : On Thursday March 26, 2009 around 16:45hrs. Brookline Ma. Fire Dept struck box 271 for a possible basement fire at 59 Naples Road. 1st due companies reported smoke showing on arrival from the basement and C-2 reported fire showing shortly after he arrived. A 2nd alarm was struck and companies went to work. I arrived behind Boston Car-5 with moderate smoke showing from a large 2.5 story wood-frame 30x50. Interior companies reported the heavy fire in the basement was knocked down but the fire extended to the upper floors and was in the walls. The oic special called for an extra ladder truck (Cambridge Ladder-1) to the scene a couple of minutes before the Chief struck the 3rd alarm.

Boston Struck Box on New Chardon St at Cambridge Street 03/26/09 : On Thursday March 26, 2009 while buffing in Boston, they struck a box for a possible fire in a high rise building on New Chardon Street Between Cambridge Street and Bulfinch Place. Companies investigated a haze on the 5th floor which turn out to be nothing.

W/F Newton Ma. Box 913 79 Brookline Street 03/20/09 : On Friday March 20, 2009 W/F Newton Ma. Box 913 79 Brookline Street-Engine 10 was 1st due and reported smoke showing with a house fire. The W/F was transmitted by C-2 a few minutes after he arrived. Fire was in the kitchen area and extended to the attic area of a 1 story brick/wood structure 15x60 "L" shaped. Companies stretched (2) 1 3/4 lines. As the fire was knocked down, a neighbor's dog escaped and took off into the house to check it out-a firefighter from Ladder-2 had to make the rescue. The dog was returned to it's owner with out injury. Fire was quickly knocked down and there was no reported injuries. The fire happened around 14:45hrs.

Acton Ma. Fire Dept Funeral For F/F Leo J. Hayes Jr. 03/03/09 : On Tuesday March 3, 2009, the Acton Fire Dept. (Local 1904) laid to rest Firefighter/EMT Leo J. Hayes Jr. who was killed in a motor vehicle accident. The funeral was held at Saint Bridget's Church on Percival Street in Maynard Ma. and burial was at Glenwood Cemetery/St. Bridget's Cemetery on Great Road (Route 117) Maynard.

13th Annual MDA Ski Muster 2009 02/26/09 : On Thursday February 26, 2009, the 13th Annual MDA Ski Muster was held at Wachusett Mountain in Princeton Ma. Firefighters from Massachusetts and Rhode Island competed in several different events. The annual event is sponsored by Fox 25 Boston, WAAF Radio, Wachusett Ski Mountain and MDA. This is one way how firefighters help raise money for MDA.

Lord (Engine-1) passed away on February 18, 2009 and his funeral was held on Feruary 24, 2009 at Our Lady's Church on Washington Street at Adams Street. His funeral passed by Newton Station 4 (closed and under construction) and Engine-1 saluted and rang Station-4's bell.

5th Alarm Boston Ma. Box 3358 Blue Hill Ave At Columbia Road 02/21/09 : On Saturday Morning 02/21/09 around 01:30hrs. Boston Ma. 5th Alarm for Box 3358 on Blue Hill Ave at Columbia Road. Fire was in a 5 story brick church (100X100) with commercial on the 1st floor towards Blue Hill Ave side. Companies had heavy fire on the 4th and 5th floors in the rear section of the structure and quickly knocked the fire down. Boston Fire was very busy besides this fire. At the same time, an A/C/W was in on Commonwealth Ave in Brighton and a 2nd A/C/W on Peterborough Street in the Back Bay. While these photo's were being put up, another A/C/W was in at 6 Buswell Street in Brighton. I took this job in as a 3rd alarm and while en-route the 4th and 5th were transmitted and upon my arrival, there was light smoke showing.

3rd Alarm Newton Ma. Box 248 88-102 Allison Street 02-12-09 : On Thursday morning February 12, 2009 around 06:15hrs. Newton Box 248 88-102 Allison Street. Fire was in a 2.5 story wood-frame occupied structure 20x40. Companies had heavy fire showing on arrival. There were 4 injuries at this fire, 2 civilians and 2 firefighters. A firefighter from Engine-3 fell from the attic area to the 1st floor just before I arrived and was transported to Beth Isreal Hospital in Boston. MY best wishes to go to both members. NFD group 1 had the fire and Group 2 came in to overhaul and picked up. 
I was late taken this job in due to being at the fire alarm office. The all out was transmitted around 10:00am.

10-75 All/Hands Bronx NY 02-08-09 : On Sunday February 8, 2009 around 14:20hrs. Bronx NY. Box 75-2326 for St Anne's Ave at Westchester Ave. Fire was a structure on the elevated train system on the #2 line. Companies were delayed fighting the fire due to some explosions and had to wait for the power to be shut off and to i.d. what was in the structure from the MTA officials. (1) tower/ladder was special called over the 10-75 (Tower/Ladder-17).

10-75 All/Hands Manhattan NY 2-7-09 : On early Saturday morning February 7, 2009 around 01:00hrs Manhattan Box 75-1321 for 12 East 108th Street near 5th Ave. Fire was in 1 apartment on the 4th floor of a 6 story brick/concrete 150X90 occupied multiple dwelling (OMD). Fire was knocked down upon our arrival so I only took a couple of action shoots. This job was good for some nice apparatus photos at night with no flash.

10-75 All/Hands Queens NY 02-07-09 : On Saturday morning around 11:00hrs. Queens 10-75 box 4823 85-26 148th Street at 87th Ave. Fire was in a 2.5 story wood-frame occupied structure 20x30. Took this job in leaving the hotel in Queens Saturday morning. It was a quick knock down but got to watch Rescue-4 respond from their quarters down Queens Blvd on the 10-75 signal. The hotel was across the street from their quarters.

Box 75-6081 for 97-15 129th Street near 97th Ave. Fire was in the attic area of a 2.5 story wood-frame occupied dwelling. Squad 270 reported 10-70 (dead/frozen hydrant) on arrival and (1) 10-45 unknown code was transported after jumping from the roof.

W/F Newton Ma. Box 67 301 Lake Ave 1-20-09  Grp-3 : On Tuesday Night January 20, 2009 Newton Box 67 was transmitted for 301 Lake Ave for a reported house fire with multiple calls coming in. Upon arrival of the 1st due company, they reported fire showing from floor 2. The fire was in a 2.5 story wood-frame occupied structure 40X60. Companies used (2) hand lines with the 2 ladder companies searched for occupants and ventilated. Searches come up negative. The cause of the fire is being investigated by Newton Fire.

Boston Fire Station 10 And Rescue-1 1-02-09 : On January 2, 2009 while out buffing in Boston, I stopped at Station 10 and got a tour and a very close up look at the fairly new Rescue-1 that runs a 2007 Pierce Quantum Heavy Rescue. Pics with the city sky line were taken on North Street behind City Hall.

3rd Alarm Newton Ma. Box 52 448 Woodward St. 1-1-09 : On New Year's Day at 9:23 am Newton Box 52 was struck for 448 Woodward Street. Upon arrival companies found heavy smoke showing from a large 2.5 story wood-frame structure. Fire started in the basement and extended to all floors via the walls. Seven Newton Firefighters were injuried at this fire.
